Dr. Meyerson offers a new service to assist seniors and their families as they navigate the future and plan for the golden years.  As a Counselor and SRES Realtor,  she focuses on their health care interactions with relatives and the residential issues including aging in place or identifying appropriate housing moving forward.

At the request of an eldercare attorney in Florida, she has developed a support system where the client and family can be assured that when the time comes the estate settlement will be addressed appropriately. Too often, quick decisions are made without careful consideration of the true value of the property and funds to be distributed.  Often adult children do not live close by and loneliness increases for her clients as the support of friends and neighbors dwindle. This careful life planning will encourage peace of mind for all involved. Many of her clients in their senior years need guidance in determining who should receive selected  items and the sale or distribution of unwanted belongings like silver, artwork or jewelry. They often want specific items to be donated to favored charities.

As a counselor named in the will,  Ann develops a non-threatening relationship with her clients where they can discuss their concerns, review healthy lifestyle issues and verbalize their feelings about a shrinking social life, boredom and depression.  By setting up a plan of action, her clients lives take on a new meaning.  Support sessions are scheduled which address these issues and provide a low-key

ongoing relationship.   Many of her silver clients enjoy sorting through their belongings and reminiscing. Ann can facilitate a meeting with an auctioneer who advises them on what has true value. Their items are then sold through televised auctions from the auctioneer's farm house where clients can watch the sales from long distance.

Another pertinent goal is to help her patients create safe and comfortable homes with modifications for example to avoid falls.  "Approximately one in four US Residents aged 65 and older will experience fall occurrences, assessing gait and balance issues" (CDC).  Ann also has knowledge of simple changes like specialized bed pads with copper lining for arthritis and body pain, specific lighting like Salt Lamps, that are more supportive and sensitive on the eyes that can also prevents falls in darkness at night, and works to help make accommodations for senior living. Modifications to homes can be made to avoid falls like putting bars in showers or installing specialized walk in showers. Ann promotes safety among her clients, for example, recommending appropriate and supportive shoes and giving up ChaCha shoes (High Heels) and going for alternatives like custom shoe implants or shoes specialized for seniors are highly recommended. Check out this list of recommended Sneakers for Elders.   Ann also promotes life alerts for patients who live alone, a device that calls emergency response team if a person has fallen and cannot get up. Such devices can be helpful even for couples as it can be heavy to lift a loved one after a fall. Resources can be found here, Medical Alert Buyers Guide.

This specialized senior service fulfills a need while providing enrichment in life.  The population is growing and in many states equals about 1/3 of the citizens.  Literature such as the Mayo Clinic on Healthy Living is an easy and comprehensive guide to keeping one's body young, mind sharp and one's spirit fulfilled by specialists LeBrasseur and Chen who address the needs of  seniors.  Such advice is valuable in the work embraced by Dr. Ann.  Summarizing her involvement with this population, she embraces the advice provided by one of the contributors, Rachel, a 101 year old holocaust survivor's favorite mottos which is,

"Don't let anybody get you down,

never be pessimistic and

work for the best."

-Rachel
